What's on - week beginning Sunday 30 September 2018 onwards

Last Sunday of the month 4pm service will be on Sunday 30 September. Theme: 'Creationtide'. All very welcome.

The 'Happy Singers' group meets this Wednesday at 7pm in church. There's an open invitation to everyone who enjoys singing and making music with other people.

The next CHURCH CLEANING will be next Saturday, 6th October, 9.30-11.30am. All welcome!

We will be celebrating HARVEST next Sunday, 7 October. There will be a shared meal after church. Please write down offers of food on the list at the back of church. Thank you.

We will be holding our PET SERVICE next Sunday, 7 October at 4pm (the Sunday closest to the feast day of St Francis of Assisi). Pets & the people they look after - all very welcome! If you can help with leafleting for this service, please sign the list at the back of church and take some leaflets or posters with you. We're going to prioritise the streets in bold type on the list.

The PCC meets on 9 October at 8.05pm (after the 7.30pm Eucharist) - focused on arrangements for the 1 December Christmas Bazaar.

On 14 October (1) we are looking forward to welcoming Caitlin Harland from London Citizens to preach for us. This is part of a discernment process to see whether we should join London Citizens ( (2) Tonye is very kindly going to meet with anyone who would like to explore how we could use Social Media to be of service to the life of our church.

Bishop Adrian is retiring this year and there is an open invitation to a farewell event for him on Friday 19 October, 6-9pm at Christ Church, Spitalfields (Commercial Street, E1 6LY). If you would like to come please sign the sheet at the back of church.

The Christmas Bazaar this year will take place on Saturday 1st December, 12-4pm. Please save the date. Offers of help gratefully received (please speak with Sue C, Liz T, or Andrew W). We're going to put out boxes for things to sell on 14 October. We'd be grateful if you could think about raffle prizes and things we might be able to auction.

Paul Higgins will kindly be holding his COFFEE MORNING at 4 Mongers Almhouses on Sat 8th December. Please save the date.

Night Shelter dates before Christmas: 3 and 17 November; 1 and 22 December. It won't be taking place this year at St Luke's, Homerton Terrace. Venue tbc. If you'd like to volunteer and there are any of the dates above that you know you can't do, please email John Alty asap on

Gill is fundraising to buy a 'Prayer Bus' (an adapted, good quality second hand minibus) to provide spiritual and pastoral support for refugees in Calais. The fundraising target is £10,000. If you would like to contribute online please go to:

Some volunteering opportunities: we'd like to hear from you if you would be willing to:

(A) Join a rota of altar servers

(B) Do some ushering when we have baptisms and at major festivals such as Easter and Christmas. These people would be in addition to the Stewards on the rota

(C) Be willing to come in to church to organise the altar linen kept in the Vestry

Dates for FUTURE PCC meetings in the Parish Room (8.05pm): 9 Oct, 20 Nov.

Please sign up in the file on the table at the back of church if you have time to get involved in church opening on a Saturday, 9.30 - 3pm. As little as half an hour of your time is really useful. We have an obligation to one of our funders for the repair work on our Tower to be open 40 Saturdays a year. And anyhow - we'd like to be open as much as possible.

We need to ensure that there are always two adults in Junior Church. Would you be willing, not to lead, but to be a second adult, on occasion? You will need a DBS check, but we can organise that. Please speak with Andrew or Gill.

If you play an instrument, please tell Victoria, our Director of Music. It doesn't matter at all how good you think you are - she'd like to hear from you.
