What's on - 10 March onwards

Happy Singers (a singing group, open to everyone) meets on Wednesdays in the church.

We'll be having SOUP LENT LUNCH at 12.35pm on Fri 15, 22, 29, April 5, 12. All very welcome!

Lent Groups: During Lent, Christians are encouraged to seek out ways to grow in their discipleship. This year we have the opportunity to do this with members of other local churches, and with a great Biblical figure as our guide and companion: Abraham, flawed yet faithful friend of God. 5 sessions on Wednesday afternoons and evenings (you can choose which suits you best), starting 13 March.

We will be using Meg Warner's book 'Abraham: A journey through Lent' SPCK, 2015. We're not assuming that people will want to read or buy the book, but of course if you'd like to then please do. You can order it here (and Andrew would be glad to help if you don't have a computer), or you can order it through a bookshop:

The sessions are:

Wed 13 March, 4-5.30 & 7-8.30pm, HERE at St John of Jerusalem, South Hackney – Lauriston Rd, corner with Moulins Rd, E9 7EY. The Call: Genesis 12:1-18 & The promise: Genesis 15

Folk guitarist Margot Weidemann will be giving a concert in our church on March 16th at 7pm. Early bird tickets - £5; regular admission £8.50. For tickets, please go to (and search for 'Margot live at St John of Jerusalem'). All welcome!

The PCC meets on Wed 20 March at 7pm in the Parish Room.

The next church cleaning is Sat 6 April, 9.30-11.30am.

Our 'Annual Meeting of Parishioners' (electing churchwardens) and 'Annual Parochial Church Meeting'

(electing 6 members of the PCC) will be on 7 April 2019, immediately after the 10am service.

We are holding a RETREAT DAY here in the church to prepare for Holy Week on Sat 13 April, 11.15am-2.15pm. The speaker is The Revd Bernadette Hegarty, the Vicar of St Paul's, Bow Common. Cost £10 (but please say if that's not possible). The price covers lunch and all materials. Surplus money will go to the Delhi Brotherhood. Registration essential (as we need numbers for catering). Please sign the list at the back of church.

Please could EVERYONE do a new electoral roll form - even if you did it last year, or in previous years.

Please make sure to SIGN and date the form, and only tick one box. If you want to check whether you live in the parish, please see the parish map on the table. You don't need to do one if you are under 16.

The revision began on 27 January '19 and will run until Friday 22 March '19. You can join the electoral roll if you are baptised, over 16 and (1) you are a member of the C of E and are resident in the parish (2) if you are not resident in the parish but have worshipped in this church for more than six months (3) if you are a member of a church which subscribes to the Doctrine of the Trinity, and you are prepared to declare yourself to be a member of the Church of England and have worshipped with us for more than six months.

During Lent we'll be fundraising for the Diocesan Lent Appeal which this year is supporting charities working to end Modern Day Slavery in London: Ella's Home, Kalayaan, Love 146, Tamar, The Rise Project (The Children's Society).
