What's on - 22 September 2019 onwards

Congratulations to Zaine on his baptism day, and a warm welcome to his family, godparents and friends.

Thank you to Gabriella who played her violin in church today. Gabriella, daughter to Connie, granddaughter to Milly, is ten years old and attends London Fields Primary School where she is in Year 6. She has been playing the violin since she was 6 years old. At school, Gabriella's favourite subjects are English, Maths and Art. At home, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family and helping out around the house.

The Eucharist just this coming Tuesday (Sept 24th) will be at 6.30pm.

We are all warmly invited to welcome our new bishop - Bishop Joanne to the Stepney Area at a service being held this Friday, 27th September at St Mary's, Islington at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7pm.

The service will be followed by a reception. Please register for a free ticket if you plan to attend so that the organisers know how many people to cater for. T. Cribb & Sons funeral directors at 46 Dalston Lane E8 3AH are inviting us all to a MACMILLAN coffee morning on Fri 27/09/2019 from 11am - 4pm.

Requiem Mass for Rose Walker. Val (one of our two Churchwardens & Rose's mum) sings with the St Mary's Singers, a choir who sing at Churches and Cathedrals around the country. They will be singing Claudio Casciolini's Mass at St Alphage's Church, Montrose Avenue, Burnt Oak, Edgware, HA8 0DN, this Saturday, 28th September at 6pm. This will be a special Requiem Mass for Rose. It would be lovely if some of the congregation could be there for this special thanksgiving. There is plenty of parking in Montrose Avenue on Saturday afternoons.

We will be holding our PET SERVICE, this coming Sunday 29 September at 4pm (the Sunday before the feast-day of St Francis of Assisi). Pets & the people they look after - all very welcome! Please spread the word. Posters and flyers available at the back of church. Please tick the list if you are able to flyer a street.

ARTS & CRAFTS EXHIBITION Thurs 3 Oct, Private View, 7-9pm with live music. Exhibition, Fr 4th & Sat 5th, 11am - 7pm. Would anyone be willing to make some cakes to be served on Fri & Sat? We will also need 2 people at all times, so if you have any time on 4th & 5th, 11am - 7pm, please let Andrew or Liz Taylor know.

We are looking for some people who would be willing to join an organising committee for this year's Christmas Bazaar (which will be held on Sat 7 Dec). If you'd be interested in helping with this, please write your name on the list at the back of church.

We will be celebrating our HARVEST festival on 6 October. There'll will be a shared meal after church - please bring along some food and we can eat together. Sign up sheet at the back of church if you'd like to say what you're bringing. We will keep a small amount of food donated at Harvest to give away from the church, and all remaining donations will go to the Hackney Foodbank. The Foodbank needs: Tinned tuna or mackerel. Tinned fruit. Tinned Veg. Packet soup. Long-life fruit juice. Tinned pulses/chickpeas. Rice pudding. Jars of curry sauce. Soap. They don't need: Pasta. Tea. Please check the 'sell buy' dates.

Oasis Retreat Day - Tuesday, 8th October, 10:45am-3:30pm at St Andrew's, Holborn entitled: The Spirituality of St Francis, led by Lydia McLean, Chaplain, UCH Hospital. Cost £10. Call: 07429 612642 to register, or tell Fr Doug Hiza. All very welcome!

Who Cares? An Introduction to Pastoral Care Course: 7 Tues evening sessions, 7-9pm, 8th, 15th, 29th Oct and 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th Nov. Topics covered:

Listening • Nature of Pastoral Care • Visiting • Prayer in Pastoral Care • Boundaries and Confidentiality • Bereavement • Using the Bible in Pastoral Care. Full cost is £30 per person. The course takes place at 'Stepney Centre for Training & Development', St Anne's Community Hall, Hemsworth St, Hoxton, N1 5LF. Please speak with Andrew, Gill, Manuela, Basil or Pat if you'd like to think about this.

The next church cleaning - unusually - will be on the second Saturday of October - 12 Oct, 9.30-11.30am.

Night Shelter starts again in November. John Alty is very kindly co-ordinating the rota. He expects to be responsible for Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings up until Christmas and in the New Year for Friday nights and Saturday mornings.
