We have a strong link with the Hackney Winter Night Shellter.
Volunteers from our church help run the shelter at St Matthias, Stoke Nweington, from January to March each year. This year, we're going to be helping in Novenmber and December as well, at nearby St Lukes, Homerton Terrace.
Our helping involves getting to know the guests who attend and enjoying their company. We also cook, serve an evening meal, sleep over in the shelter, make breakfast the following morning, tidy up and wash the bedding. If this sounds a chore, it isn't. It feels like a privilege.
Fundraising also takes place to raise the money for food, which costs approximately £100 for the evening meal and breakfast.
If you would like to help with any aspect of this work, please let us know.
