02 May 2026
Please see below what's happening at St John of Jerusalem. You'd be so welcome to come and join us for any of these services or events.

There is EVENSONG here on 3 May at 5pm (with choir practice beforehand at 4pm).
There is no Morning or Evening Prayer tomorrow (due to the bank holiday). For a list of Morning and Evening Prayer times in the week ahead, please see the diary overleaf.
There is Little Tots 0-4 (under 5) Stay and Play every Tuesday during term time, 10am – 12 pm. Possible new volunteers for this, please speak with Lisa E, Robyn, Toby or Andrew. (Due to Evensong this evening, we won't be setting up for Tots Group after church today.)
There is choir practice every Tuesday, 7 – 8.30pm, in the Parish Room. This will start with an introduction to music theory, 7 - 7.30pm. People are welcome to come at 7 or 7.30pm.
We have three new services:
- a monthly Evensong (*next one tonight, Sunday 3 May, 5pm*)
- a monthly Thursday Night Prayer (next one 14 May, 7pm)
- a monthly Sunday Service in our church school (Pancake Church!), especially for Primary School aged children (17 May, 10am).
Thank you to everyone who came to church cleaning yesterday. The next church cleaning is on Saturday 6th June at 9:30am.
Last Sunday we set aside as volunteering Sunday. There are lots of ways you can volunteer in the life of the church, and your contribution is hugely appreciated. Please sign up on the forms at the back of church if there are things you'd like to get involved in.
For those of you who kindly give financially to the life of the church by Standing Order, we'd like to ask whether you'd be willing to cancel your Standing Order with your bank and go over to using 'Parish Giving'. Parish Giving sets up a standing order with your bank, but also can process all the Gift Aid, which saves admin time in the parish. You can also tick a box if you want to which increases your gift annually by the rate of inflation. It makes a huge difference to church finances if people can tick that box. Making the change is really easy. Go to the homepage of the church website – www.sjoj.co.uk and click on the link which says 'Donate to St John of Jerusalm'. Then click in 'Regular Giving'. Anyone who would like to start giving by Standing Order, please go straight to Parish Giving. Thank you!
New PCC members – if you have not yet handed back your forms (given to you at the APCM) to Andrew, please can you do so ASAP. They are necessary to initiate your DBS checks. (If you have mislaid the forms you were given, please see Estelle for a new set!).
Anna Dalton's daughter, Margarita, has signed up to climb Mt Kilimanjaro this August, to raise money for Street Child (who work with a network of local organisations in over 20 of the world's toughest countries across sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Europe, to see all children safe, in school and learning - especially in low-resource environments and emergencies). She is hoping to raise £2980. Any words of encouragement or sponsorship gratefully received! You can sponsor her at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/uk-kilimanj...
Prideaux House is seeking donations of good quality clothes or electrical items to sell in their Charity Shop. Donations can be left at Prideaux House (10 Church Crescent) on Monday, Tuesday or Friday mornings, or at the charity shop (407 Mare Street).
