Please note there is no Little Tots on Tuesdays over the summer break. Restarts in September. Possible new volunteers for this, please speak with Children, Families & Schools Worker Lisa or with Andrew or Andrea.
Church Trip to Southend on Sea. Saturday 22nd August. Coach pick up at 8.30am (Church Crescent). Returning at 6pm. Tickets £10 adults £5 children. All individuals under 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Please book with Basil & give the money to him. Sign up sheet at the back. If you would like to come and need assistance with the cost, then please speak to Andrew or Andrea.
There is choir practice after church next Sunday, 23 August at 11:30am.
There is no Tuesday choir practice now until Tuesday 15 September.
We are joining together with our neighbours at St Mary of Eton to start a new discipleship programme this Autumn. Please sign the sheet now at the back of church. It is for anyone interested in preparing for Baptism, First Holy Communion or Confirmation—and for anyone simply wanting to explore more about what we believe. Sessions will be fun, interactive and discussion‑based, with children's activities supporting each week's theme. Sessions will run for six weeks from 6:30pm – 7:30pm on Tuesday evenings:
- 8 Sept – St Mary of Eton, Eastway, Hackney Wick E9 5JA
- 15 Sept – St John of Jerusalem, Lauriston Road, E9 7EY
- 22 Sept – St Mary of Eton
- 29 Sept – St John of Jerusalem
- 6 Oct – St Mary of Eton
- 13 Oct – St John of Jerusalem
There will be an opportunity - for those who wish to – to be confirmed at St Mary of Eton on Sun18 October 2026 at 5pm by the Bishop of Stepney.
Starting Wednesday 9 September, 7pm- 9pm for 6 weeks: Who Cares? An introduction to pastoral care. 6 weeks exploring the principles of good pastoral care - learn how to confidently care for others in church and community. Venue: St John of Jerusalem Church. Open to anyone in the Stepney area (suggested donation of £30 from your parish).

We are delighted to share some great news. Thanks to National Lottery players, St John of Jerusalem has been awarded a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to celebrate 200 years of our parish and to plan for its long-term future (our baptism registers start in 1826, the first full year of parish life). Over the coming year, the project will bring changes you can see and enjoy, including a permanent graded access at the main entrance and essential repairs to the roof, along with a programme of activities for the whole community: craft workshops for local children & young people, a concert for older people with afternoon tea, and an Open Day. This is a long-term endeavour, and this year is about laying the foundations well. There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved, with more news and ways to take part to follow in the autumn. Leander Court (63 Balcorne St, E9 7AZ), where congregation member Anne lives, has a knitting group, which apparently is open to all. Tuesdays, 3-4pm. Anyone interested, please speak to congregation member Anne Farrugia.
There is Pancake Church on Sunday 20 September, 10am (at St John of Jerusalem Primary School, Kingshold Rd, E9 7JF).
There will be a Safeguarding Meeting for all volunteers working with children and young people (Tots Group, Pancake Church, Junior Church & Youth Group). We'll meet after church on Sunday 20 Sept, in the Parish Room.
We are looking for new volunteers to assist occasionally with our Junior Church and/or Youth Group. (A DBS check and some safeguarding training would be necessary.) Please speak to Lisa-Raine or Estelle for further details.
